California Commercial Vehicle Insurance

If you drive a commercial vehicle (big rig, truck, bus, etc.) in California, be aware that there are certain legal requirements for vehicle insurance must be maintained. Because commercial vehicles can often carry hazardous materials or precious cargo (such as our children) the insurance requirements for them are much higher than traditional auto coverage.

Not all insurance companies offer commercial vehicle insurance. Some companies that specialize in covering cars have a separate division that handles the underwriting of heavy vehicles. Many times you can check with your agent tells you about the availability of coverage or refer you to another insurer, you may be able to handle your business needs.

Some of the requirements for coverage of these specialized vehicles may include training requirements for drivers as defined by the state of California. Often, drivers must have special support or license to drive such vehicles. Regular inspections are usually mandatory vehicle as well as to help maintain safety on the road. It is not uncommon to see a random check of settings throughout the state points to control commercial trucks and other vehicles.

If you have any questions about the availability of coverage or the minimum requirements you should contact the state department of motor vehicles that will explain the detailed requirements of coverage depending on the type of vehicle used for what purpose for.
